The Village by RudolfHerczog The Village by RudolfHerczog
Ok, starting of the new year with this one. With the 1.1 release, Maxwell is finally starting to be a useful tool.
There´s still a few issues left to solve, but the look of this scene is pretty close to what i had in mind for the renderer from start.

Cinema4D for the models, Photoshop for postwork.

I too thought of the game "Riven" and would love to see your works in something of an animation form... the detail is superb and the atmosphere is just perfect. =]

Looks cool. Like something out of the games 'Myst' or 'Riven'.

CINEMA 4D? no way!, I hardly see much good 3D art that didn't have "3Dstudio max" or "maya" listed under it. C4D is all I have, along with Vue 6, which is great for putting the models in a realistic environment, but not so much for general modelling. Still, now that I know that such a cool structure can be made in Cinema 4D, I'm a little tempted to try making a sci-fi city myself. But I'd better practice as buildings never were my strong point :p

You make it look like it´s just around the corner and I have walked there many times before. I think that´s what I like the most: that you can make a place like that feel very familiar.

Van-Schneider Featured By Owner Mar 22, 2008
some of the most realistic 3d rendering that I've seen, as good as that seen in movies such as starwars and lotr. The lighting especially is dead on. At the same time, it would be awesome if it were a photo (as I first thought).
in any case, a definite :+fav:
Sgtgrandpa Featured By Owner Mar 15, 2008
Looks like a village I would expect to see in Riven or Myst.
I had to check the submit category to make sure it was not a photo.
I thought, if this is a photo, were the hell is it. I got to go there!.
shelsey Featured By Owner Feb 21, 2008
This is really unbelievable how this looks so realistic, it feels like I could visit this place in real life.

How much time can you spend on such pieces?
agreatpenname Featured By Owner Feb 15, 2008  Hobbyist Traditional Artist
Holy cow!

This is amazing! At my first glance I thought it was a photo and my thoughts were "Where in the blazes do you find architecture like that~!?" When I realized it was all CG all I could do was whistle because dang! this is fantastic!!

Scotchtapeworm Featured By Owner Aug 16, 2007
This blows my mind!

If you don't mind me asking a few questions, I hope that would be allright.

Did you use Raytrace shadows?

What exactly did you do in photoshop? did you add the drippy dirt like stuff or what?

If not, how did you get all the dirt to correspond correctly while texturing? (more speciffically under pipes and ridges on the closer dome building.

Again, this is great!
RudolfHerczog Featured By Owner Aug 30, 2007   Digital Artist
Thanks. :)

The lighting is a plain Maxwell sun. I never use extra lightsources for outdoor scenes with that renderer.

As you´ve already guessed, some of the dirt is added in post and most of it is used around the pipes, screwholes and metal parts. I also did the bricks and trees along with some color correction to give the scene a "warm" tone.

This is absolutely incredible. The detail is just impressive and it looks as real as real can get in any program. The perspective really creates a wonderful artistic view to this and the colors are so uplifting and bright. And the lighting and shading is just giving me that extra "wow" factor!
